Colegio Alpamayo was founded in 1987 by Centro de Orientación Familiar (COFAM). This not for profit organization was searching for a way to strengthen the family through classes created for parents to better educate their children. With a great vision in to the future, they created Colegio Alpamayo, for boys and Colegio Salcantay for girls. The Ministry of Education authorized its opening and operation on March 28, 1987. The school, from that moment, was allowed to provide education in Early Years, Primary, and Secondary as an experimental, bilingual school.
Since the beginning, the spiritual and religious formation in both schools has been entrusted to Opus Dei, a Personal Prelature of the Catholic Church.
Alpamayo began in Surco, where the old Club Pinerolo once stood. In 1999, Alpamayo moved to its current location: Calle Bucaramanga, Mayorazgo, occupying nearly five acres.
From its inception and construction, Alpamayo has put strong emphasis on the development of values, academic excellence, proficiency in English, and educational counseling for the family. In 1999, we first provided the European projects Optimist and Snipe. Also, Alpamayo is part of the community of International Baccalaureate schools (IB).
